But we have to realize things need to get done! and the happier we wake up, or the earlier we start our homework, life is a whole lot easier. I’ve been trying to be better about quickly getting ready for school and starting homework earlier. My mother has always encouraged to just get it done and be stress-free, but it almost never happens. So here’s some tips that are hopefully helpful to you (but me as well!)
Waking up & getting ready
- Smile and think of all the good things happening today! instead of groaning and thinking some very un-lady like things, do your best and be positive about school. I always think “today is going to be horrible and miserable and I hate everything!!!” when really, as soon as I get to school and see my friends, I realize it’s not so bad.
- Listen to music and get excited! Getting ready shouldn’t be rushed and annoying! listen to some fun music, no ballots. Spotify has tons of playlists devoted to waking up, so you should definitely try that. and think of how you can have fun today, think of all the exciting things that you are planning on
- Be prepared! Have your outfit laid out, your books all in your backpack, and if you bring lunch, have that ready as well. It’s SO annoying when you’re already running late and you don’t have all your stuff. being organized is a must!
- Read encouraging quotes and verses + give yourself a pep talk! waking up and reading inspiring words can totally affect your whole day! and I know talking to yourself as a suggestion might sound weird, but what I mean is you could read scripture aloud. Or say “i’m going to have a good attitude. i am going to enjoy today”. And if that doesn’t work, just remember kid president knows what’s up
Homework & studying
- make a plan or schedule! It’s good to have a specific time to start homework, and the earlier the better! I have a hard time doing this, but if you start your homework early, you can have the rest of the night free. It’s pretty stressful to have your work hanging over you! But obviously you should give yourself a little bit of free time before starting, especially if you have after school activities! I always try not to start after 6:30 or 7:00, but honestly i might try for 5:30. Having time set out for studying would be good as well.
- Listen to calming music! My absolute favorite peaceful singer is Jack Johnson (when I was little I called him the curious george man since he did the soundtrack). like I said earlier, spotify has playlists for everything, and i’ve heard the Hans Zimmer station on pandora is good too! pop music or anything loud or upbeat is great but way too distracting for studying.
- Kill the distractions! I know I sound a bit violent but you must. Now i’m TOTALLY guilty of getting distracted with texting friends or pinterest, youtube, etc. But something I like to do is every subject I finish or every 30 minutes or so I reward myself with watching a youtube vidoes or getting food or something. It’s a good way to motivate yourself
Now, this is getting a bit off subject but Abigail and I always have “gif wars”, and let me just say, the internet is a strangely wonderful place. here’s some encouraging ones for you:
SNL knows what’s up
Kid president at his finest
Fat amy believes in you
Mean girls once again inspiring us
As much as I wish we could set fire to the math books, We have to do the work. And if reading this blog is how you’re procrastinating right now, then carry on. I hope this somehow helped you!?
stay classy
xoxo,
