Lily- The superbowl!

In less than 1 day, America will be, well americans, screaming at the t.v. giving one-way threats to refs, and having a good old fashioned time! The superbowl is pretty much one of my favorite things about winter and this year it happens to fall on my mom's birthday (and i have to say, that's a pretty great present). If you didn't already know, This year is The New England Patriots vs. Seattle seahawks. My whole family is going for the seahawks,  as we're not big Tom Brady fans (no offense, just football politics is all). Anyway, so here's a few fun superbowl sunday outfits + ideas as well as things to do if you don't like football (But how?!)

                              Outfit ideas + FOOD!
For you seahawk girls, any navy sweater, shirt, or cardigan would be perfect, and then you could wear any lighter green you have, it doesn't have to be the trademark neon green.
For you Patriot people, any red sweater or nautical blue pullover along with a red scarf, bow, jewelry, or even lipstick would look darling
*just remember, you could always keep it classy with a jersey & jeans

As far as food goes,
you could make these half unhealthy- half healthyish strawberries
or set up your cheese+crackers like a pro
and you could always go hardcore with your guac

For all y'all football haters Americans that don't like football, here are some things you can do instead even though there's a good chance you'll end up watching some of it
  • Try a new t.v. show on netflix as much as I adore netflix, I will separate myself from it for a night. my 3 favorites that I 100% recommend are psych, hart of dixie, and white collar
  • prepare for the week ahead I'll have to do this probably tonight or tomorrow immediately after church, but you could finish homework or papers, set out outfits, make shopping lists, etc.
  • reconsider even if you don't like the superbowl, there's funny commericals, plus it's a great opportunity to hang out with your family or friends, and then of course there's the half time show, even though there will never be another half time show that will even compare to BeyoncĂ©'s a few years back, after all she is the queen of all things fabulous
I hope you guys have a great superbowl sunday/weekend/february!
xoxo,
Lily

After-School Snacks!

I am, personally, quite happy to be doing a food post! I've been trying to be a lot healthier lately and the following tips, tricks, and little recipes have really helped me. I'll go ahead and begin!

One of the most helpful things I've come up with is to make healthy, delicious food in big batches on a day where you have lots of time, and this way if you're in a rush or are too lazy to cook, you can grab a meal out of the freezer and throw it in the microwave. You can freeze soup, whole-wheat mac and cheese, and fruit smoothies. (Don't forgot the classic, amazing-tasting snack of frozen grapes - - for a fun twist, you can put them on little sticks and they're instantly adorable.) You can even freeze baked goods, like whole-wheat homemade muffins or tortillas. You can even freeze BURRITOS. How can you not want that?!? Please want that.

Be realistic about your after-school snacks, and pretty much every other meals. Don't plan to eat a pile of chopped celery after school when you know you won't do that. Good examples of in-the-middle, healthy-but-not-too-healthy snacks are:

Plain popcorn
Whole-wheat pretzels
Peanut butter
Cheese (pretty much just cheese by itself)
Yogurt
Applesauce
Sweet potato fries/chips (personal favorite)
Cucumbers with oil and vinegar (an acquired taste)

That's it! Remember to drink lots and lots and lots and lots of water, especially before your after school snack. You'll have less of a huge appetite and it's good for clear healthy skin and basically everything else.

Thanks for reading!

Lily- 5 winter outfits to make your dark winter wardrobe classy

It's the middle of January, the weather is being evil and cold everywhere, even the south. Most clothing stores think this means they need to sell all brown and black colors, *ahem* no. so here I have a few of my go-to type of outfits for different occasions. I hope you guys enjoy!
so here is an outfit we've all seen before. pinterest, polyvore, instagram, etc. yes, I know the herringbone vest is literally owned by every prep on youtube, but you can totally make it your own and personalize this look!

pick a fun oxford, a patterned vest, and any leather boots and you've got yourself the classiest look a teenager can get.

The prepster. the riding boots give it class, the skinny jeans give it a statement, and the sweater adds a some unique pattern play.

The doughnut sweater (that i got for Christmas and absolutely ADORE) is from lauren Conrad's line.

So here I have the same sweater but instead I added black pants (also from the LC collection) and my polka dot keds. it's not exactly preppy but I'm the kind of person that may be majority preppy, but if i see something hipster-ish or anything, and i like it, I'll buy it!

So here I have a simple striped cotton shirt from aeropostale that I literally wear wayyy to much. I love flowy tops like this so much! I got it a while back and they are always changing their stuff but it might still be in stores. I used to refuse to go there but now occasionally i'll find stuff i like. my flats are from old navy and were seriously only $20. It's a bit hard to see but i also included my j.crew giraffe necklace that i love (like, more than life)

So this outfit would be considered a "workout" outfit. However, I almost never exercise in the winter (but does p.e. count?). usually during late spring, summer, and early fall is when i work out the most since that is my volleyball season. this is what i call my "make it look like you work out/I want to wear sweats without looking like trash" outfit. cropped yoga leggings, lululemon headband, southern shirt co, and nikes.

       Stay classy!

Lily- Organizing {My bedroom}

Two of my absolute favorite activities are decorating and organizing (is it obvious what i've been doing today?). So a while back I did a post on my bedroom, but today is all about keeping it cute and in order. Here's a few pics and ideas that hopefully will help y'all out!

Desk: A lot of people just use their desk as a junk pile, a place holder! but why not make it a adorable study-work space? I keep my papers and things in the drawers obviously but on top I displayed a few of my classier items. for my basic writing utencils (lame stuff like pencils and ballpoint pens) i just use my tory burch nylon makeup bag as a cute replacent for a pencil case. I also have a stack of a few of my favorite books which you could easily do to give your desk a cute personal touch!

Dresser/vanity: same as the desk, many people just cram their belongings, money, makeup jewlery, etc. all over it, but why not keep it cute and organized? i keep my earrings on an adorable mirror-tray sort of thing just to keep them from jumbling up and looking unappealing. I have my Lilly P wristlet as well as makeup bag from estee lauder (that i keep accessories in). try to keep your jewelry organized, you could even use a jewelry tree of some sort to make you look like you have your life together.

Foot of the bed: Now this is more of a minor detail, yet it can go a long way. don't just pile your shoes here, instead add a bench or chest! I have a suticase that i got from a darling little antique shop that I also use for storage use! to make it look classy, add a stack of books or maybe flowers! on top of my books i placed a small teacup to make a cute vintage statement
Shelf decor: shelves in my opinion are pretty tricky to decorate. you want to make it cute and classy, not catastrophic and cluttered. I often times rearrange my shelves, seeing I can never get them quite right. I have a vintage style clock (you can but them anywhere, and they match with simply anything) as well as my mason jars with seashells, a cunning little suitcase, my lilly pulitzer agenda (from last year-but who's counting?) as well as the words "lily's room" in scrabble tiles. you can always always always stack some books, add a vase of flowers, or sweet photos as well!

Scarf rack: this is kind of self explanatory, But it's super important to keep your accessories together! my dad and I made my scarf rack a while back with just a piece of barnwood and some really cool old nails. it's a really simple DIY that gives your room a touch of shabby chic!

Pens, pencils and Markers: writing utencils are some of my favorite things to display, so why not put them in darling little jars? I have my gel pens in a small mason jar, sharpie pens in a larger jar (which i am going to add sprinkles to the bottom just like here). for my pencils i placed them in a hubert's lemonade bottle (which is sold at whole foods and is the most delicious drink ever). for my markers and miscellaneous things i have them in a striped little bucket from the target dollar section (you can find tons of different prints too). All you have to do is take your adorable colorful supplies, gather up some unique jars/buckets, and you're set!

Good luck organizing and i hope you guys have a Fantastic weekend!
xoxo,
Lily

Spirit Week!

Despite the fact that my teachers insist upon holding spirit week on a four-day week (do they WANT us to have the least amount of fun possible?) I love Spirit Week. especially so this year because we have some great days:

Pajama Day - I'll probably wear some rolled up pants or leggings with a big t-shirt. Not so interesting, but I just want to be comfy. That's the point! I'm also bringing hot cocoa, because awesome.

Wacky-Tacky Day - I have nothing planned for this day, it usually just happens. I throw on the most clashing and ridiculous pieces I have in my closet and pair it with pigtails and huge bows or my mom's old eighties scrunchies.

Throwback Thursday - I'm so excited about this one! It's no secret I love the sixties. My current idea is this:

I'll probably be changing it out a bit and adding a ridiculous jean skirt and trowing on a cardigan or knit vest.

Fandom Friday -  Yes! Finally! We get to dress up as our have movie or book character. I may go with Nancy Drew, like Lily did a while back, but I'm not sure what I'll be. Technically, it can be anything. I might just go as Richard Nixon, who is 100% my hero. I kinda have a lot.

Hope you enjoyed this and it helped you a lot!

Lily- Spirit Week!

I'm super excited for going to school this week (a once in a lifetime thing) because it's spirit week! everybody at my school  gets really into planning their outfits and all the competitions between homerooms, it's pretty hardcore. Everyday we have a pep rally and we have lots of random things to earn "points" for your class/team. At the end of the week are the homecoming basketball games. At some schools there is football homecomings, but at my school there isn't a football team. We're known as a basketball school and everyone has such fun times going to the games. Also on friday after the games is the homecoming court. then the next day is the homecoming party. There is no dancing allowed at my school, so like in the spring when there is the formal, we call it a banquet, since it's clearly not a dance. Basically you wear a pretty dress/tux, go to some sort of country club or whatnot and hang out (or go on the couples garden walk, but you know). here are my outfits for the week:

Monday: pajama day. there is nothing special about my pj's, but i might as well show you

Tuesday: neon day. well, you know what america is

Wednesday: country western day. now i'm southern and all, but this idea...no

Thursday: throwback day. i chose to do the 80's, since i mean, my dream is to be kelly kapowski and pull off a cosby sweater

Friday: school colors day. red, black, and white. My family are huge n.c. state fans so clearly this day is going to be a no-brainer

I hope you guys have a fabulous week!

Lily

School Uniforms

Unfortunately, my school's uniform is less... free. Although I don't really hate my uniform (it saves me a bunch of time, plus I know everyone else is suffering with me) it can get boring. We're allowed to wear pants or Bermuda shorts that are khaki or navy, and shirts, cardigans, and pullovers (no hoodies except the school ones) that are solid navy, white, light blue, red, or for a short time, burgundy/maroon. We have to tuck our shirts in and wear black or brown belts, and we only recently (and with much work from our student council and class president) got the dress code on socks taken away - which was GREAT!
Anyway, if your school uniform is similar to mine, these ideas might help. Every school is slightly different, so not all of these will work for you.

(P.S. - We are also not allowed to wear boots or open-toed shoes. Boo.)

1) Shop at awesome places. That seems silly, but would you rather wear an itchy polo from the Uniform Warehouse or an adorable light blue sweater with elbow patches from J. Crew? The answer i obvious. J. Crew is pretty expensive, and I rarely can buy things from their store, but I do when I can. Not to mention your parents will feel motivated to get you nicer garments since, I mean, it is for school.

2) Plan outfits out in advance. When you wake up in the morning, you don't have time to created the perfect outfit. You have thirty seconds to grab a random polo and pants that hopefully match, slip on some shoes, and be done with it. But if you plan things out in advance - clothes that at the very least match well, with the best pair of shoes possible, and even the best a pair of earrings and hair accessories, your outfit the next day will be so much cuter! You will seriously thank yourself. (Also, I would recommend also figuring out what you're going to do with your hair beforehand as well!)

3) Look for loop holes. Lily has been helping me on this. They're actually pretty easy to find if you look. For example, maybe your school says to wear a belt, but only if your pants have loops. (MIne has this exact rule.) Well, there may be not many pairs of pants with no loops out there, but hey, you can cut them off! It doesn't have to be that crazy, but whatever you do, make sure to be very inconspicuous!

Hope this helped!

Lily- School uniform

Ok so I saw a post like this on Prep in your step  and absolutely loved it! (make sure to check out the link). So I go to a Private school in North Carolina. I'm getting more used to the uniform now that i've found some loop holes. Thankfully we can wear any color of polo. The older grades are allowed to wear oxford shirts as well. In the winter we can wear solid sweaters and jackets as well as School sweatshirts. for pants we can wear navy, black, and tan khakis. I'm fine with the pants but i absolutely DETEST polo shirts. So i've invested in about a billion different solid colored sweaters. As long as it's cold outside, i try to avoid polos as much as possible. I also bought a pair of black dress pants that are still uniform but are wayyyy more comfortable. I also love accessorizing my outfits as much as physically possible by adding scarves, hairbows, lily laura bracelets, etc. Here's a few pics of my favorite outfits:
