New years eve-Lily
Christmas has passed, and a new year is right around the corner. for some of you, this is a fabulous time of year! Maybe you'll be throwing a party, or maybe it'll be a day full of wonderful television and pj's! (by the way, there will be some fabulous old disney channel reruns from the early 2000's on abc family). Or for some of you, it's quite the dreadful time! maybe you're depressed after Christmas, or maybe you just now realized you didn't do a THING on your 2014 resolutions list! well this year should be grand, after all it's this century's Quindecennial turning point! Some changes need to be made, and i suggest we start now. here are some of my resolutions:
1)be more loving and kind
2)read more books
3)talk to people even if I don't like them
4)try new things
5)dress up for really anything
6)study more
7)keep my locker somewhat clean
8)keep bratty comments inward (or rather, not have them)
9)be more Christ-like
10)participate in P.E. at least once bi-monthly (this will definitely be the hardest)
may your new years eve shine!
xoxo,
Lily
Money... How to Make It and How to Spend It
This is a wonderful time of year. As Lily said, it is a time to appreciate what you have and thank God for the things you have been given. It is also a time to figure out how the heck you are going to earn the twenty-five bucks you need to afford that fancy-schmancy jacket from Nordstrom. Well, here I am to help you out with both of those things. (yay!)
Now, let us begin with a very common dilemma. You need money. Probably not for anything really important like bills or taxes, but most likely you just want a pair of shoes or a book or a one-way plane ticket to South America so you never have to see your obnoxious classmates ever again (Was that a little bit oddly specific? Hmm.)
Anyways, the point is, you have to earn some money, and you're too young to get a job. Here are the top three options I've come up with.
Babysit-This seems to be the most popular option. For good reason! Oftentimes, you get paid just to sit around and watch T.V. while the kids sleep. Not all people can babysit though, and some people have certain requirements. If you have a neighbor who trusts you, than you probably won't even have to worry about taking a babysitting class. Though, I do recommend it (in fact, definitely do) if you plan on making a business of it. If people don't know you personally, they are going to want some sort of confirmation that you're trustworthy and mature. (It also helps to be trustworthy and mature.) Look around and see if your mom or dad has any friends with young kids. Advertise if needed!
Start a Small Business- Sounds daunting, but it really isn't. ANd it has a huge turnover! It's basically a constant stream of money, if you do it right. A couple of my friends have bought vinyl machines and started a monogram decal business, and I have heard it pays well and is really fun! Also, you could create an original product - be it food, a weekly newspaper or magazine (that sounds crazy, but you'd be amazed how much a little hard work can do!) or jewelry. Don't be afraid to think outside the Box of Boring and Unoriginal Stupidity.
You'd be Amazed What They'd Pay You For... - Okay, this is a bit vague, I admit. But If you really want to make some money, just look around. There are always little opportunities to earn a couple of bucks. Ask your mom for a couple of bucks in exchange for extra chores. See if your church or school needs some babysitters or mentors. Turn in some cans at the recycling center. There are also many local opportunities that can be VERY interesting. You can often find some odd jobs to do that will allow you to meet some very interesting people. I would personally recommend checking the wanted ads in the newspaper. Not only do they provide ample opportunity for you to earn some cash, but they are also quite entertaining!
Most importantly, remember that money isn't the most important thing in the world. Balance paid work with volunteering, and just plain old helping out. It's the right thing to do!!
Peace out, homies,
(I'm not that cool),

Lily- Merry Christmas!
Guys, I CANNOT even believe it’s Christmas in less than 6 hours! I have had such a fun time celebrating our Savior and i hope y’all have too! This month for me has been full of parties, ugly sweaters, cookies, way too much off-key singing, love, and joy. I know it’s childish, but Abigail and I have literally been freaking out and seriously do not even know how to live anymore! As Eloise once said, I absolutely LOVE Christmas! So as the moment we have been waiting for continues to come at an extremely slow pace, here is a few last minute things you could do on this fabulous day:
bake even MORE cookies or goodies. yes, I KNOW that you have dedicated the last 6 hours to the kitchen but remember that there are others out there too. maybe bring some to your elderly neighbor, maybe someone new at school who lives nearby, maybe even a family member. it’s the thought that counts.
do something with your family. this time is to celebrate the Lord most of all, but also to take time and appreciate your family that has been given to you. they might be annoying or not your favorite people, but you have to remember they love and appreciate you. it can be little things, too. you can engage in conversation for once or watch a fun Christmas movie! it’ll mean a lot.
Appreciate the time. don’t take Christmas for granted, ever. It only comes once a year! Instagram can wait, right now it’s a time for love, joy, gratefulness, forgiveness! Maybe you could write down all the things you are grateful for in life. Yes, I know it’s not thanksgiving, but it’s the holiday season!
Merry Christmas to all! (and all a good night)
xoxo,
Lily

Family Reunion Survival Guide
No matter how much you love your relatives, it's still totally awkward and uncomfortable at family reunions. Especially so for me because I have quite an interesting family who are a lot different from me and my mom, dad, and siblings.
Recently I read an article in health class that actually helped me. It talked about why you should try not to shy away from your creepy Aunt Martha when she comes in for a hug, and instead be open about greeting everyone and just being nice. No one can fault you for not wanting to have an hour long conversation with her, just try to be approachable. If you're chatting a little bit with everyone, (nothing much, just a "hi" there and a "I like your sweater" there) it'll give your obnoxious uncle less of a reason to try and have a long conversation with you one-on-one. Another good tip I learned was to try and find common ground. If you do happen to find yourself deep in conversation with your 95-year-old great grandfather, ask him about his childhood, or about a good card trick he knows. It'll keep the conversation out of awkward territory and keep things interesting. You may learn something! Lastly, if you need a break, try to find a quiet spot away from others to read or just breathe (If this place must be the bathroom... so be it!)
10 Days till Christmas,
Abigail
Lily- The Perfect Way to Spend Christmas break
well, it's officially the second to last week till Christmas! i've got a few exams left and then i'll be officially done with my education in 2014! while some of you guys will be doing last minute shopping and such, i will be enjoying myself by getting caught up on hart of dixie and watching countless jimmy fallon and snl skits. in my opinion, that is the greatest way to spend free time, along with organizing, making lists and projects, and making my life as preppy as possible. here are a few of my favourite skits.
SNL:
- michael buble holiday duets
- now that's what i call Christmas
- girlfriends talk show
- waking up with kimye
- The hannukah song (i'm not jewish, but this is still absolutely hilarious)
The tonight show with jimmy fallon:

Christmas Events (basically a copycat of Lily... :)
Like Lily, I'm not a social person, because I'm not a big fan of, you know, people. But Christmas is such a fun time I'm willing to look past that. I have a few Christmas parties - some with friends and some with family. I get to see my family from my mom's side, which is very rare. They are much normalizer than my dad's side of the family, but to be honest, less fun. I also like visiting my family in the mountains.
My favorite relatives tend to be the old men, as opposed to the women. Me and my dad call them the "hens", because all they do is get together and talk about stupid things...
"Cluck cluck cluck... I can't believe she did that... cluck."
"I know right ... cluck... and she was pregnant, too!... cluck, cluck."
Meanwhile, during holiday events, the men tend to kick back in front of the TV with a beer. My dream (okay without the alcohol). I don't blame them. It is also interesting how even though some of them don't see each other for whole years, they don't even need to communicate...
"*Grunt* Who's playing?"
"The Forty-niners and the Seahawks *grunt*."
"*Grunt* See you next year. *grunt*"
"Bye. *grunt*"
I also loving going to parties with friends. A lot of people I know have birthdays around this time, which basically turns into a big Christmas-Birthday mash-up, and it's wonderful.
So whatever event you're going to this Christmas season, I hope you have fun!! Unless it's Hanukkah. Still have fun, but maybe you should consider converting.
27 Days,
Abigail <3

lily- post-thanksgiving & pre-Christmas
so now that the thanksgiving buzz is over, the millions of turkeys have been eaten to the bone (and regretted later), the awkwardness of seeing distant relatives is long gone, awaiting next year, the trees have been decorated, and the fist fights over $200 tv's are finished (really?). so now it's time for.....CHRISTMAS! many of us (including abigail and i) are decorating our homes and obsessing over shopping lists! i have been making non-stop lists (my life right there). i made a million trips to target (my bff) and the mall (my boyfriend...wait is that weird?). I just love buying things for my friends, it is just so satisfying. i am usually broke a lot but this year i have bought quite a few things! this Christmas season i actually have quite a few social events to attend (which i would usually detest going to, but Christmas is an exception). i've got my school play that i'm in (not really a social event-but still), my Christmas piano recital (my song this year is have yourself a merry little Christmas), then quite a few christmas/white elephant parties (including one with all my friends from my old school-i'm so excited!!!!), and plenty of other gatherings that i can not think of). decorating is probably one of my favorite activities-especially for Christmas! my mom and i often get on pinterest for cute ideas-while my dad lifts the heavy boxes and my brothers help decorate the tree:) we also do elf on the shelf (my little brother adores it-and i love doing it for him) even though we don't do the whole santa thing, we just do it to entertain my brother even though he knows it's not real.here are some of my favorite pinterest-y Christmas ideas (LINKS):

My Christmas List
It's a little embarrassing to post this, but I can't stop thinking of Christmas and I love talking about it… so I couldn't help writing this.

It's a little embarrassing to post this, but I can't stop thinking of Christmas and I love talking about it… so I couldn't help writing this.
- The 36 Hours Books - these are really adorable travel books by NYT, and not only are they fun to read but they also would be really cute on display in my room :)
- Black Vans - kind of boring, but I need some black shoes and for some reason I've never owned any Vans, and they seem cool. Plus, they go with tons of stuff!!
- Plum Paper Planner - I desperately need a planner for school and I love this one. (on Etsy if you want to check them out!!)
- Things I Need To Complete My Room Decoration - the title explains itself, I think
- Books - I have a list of all the ones I want, but honestly I don't remember!! I don't own many books because I get most from the library, so I hope I get these!!
- PCRF Donation - I've been really into all that's happening in Gaza lately... and after seeing those videos, you can't just ignore their needs, you know what I'm saying??

My Favorite Books the ones that I can remember at least
Twelve Angry Men - This is a play actually, and a really short one. (they made a movie out of it too) It's about a jury and how one juryman convinces the others that the accused is innocent. It sounds boring, I know, but it's SO GOOD, I promise.
City of Ember - It's about two kids living in a futuristic underground city. It's powered completely by lights, but the lights are about to go out. Is there a way out? Is there anywhere else besides Ember? (dun-dun-dunh) Great. Book.
Young Goodman Brown - This is one of Nathaniel Hawthorne's short stories. It's very dark, but the general theme is sin and how some people try to hide it, while others embrace it.
And that's it! It takes quite a lot to make my favorite books list. There are other books I love, and maybe some would have made the list if I'd remembered them. Maybe there'll be an updated one soon!

Lily- my absolute favorite books
(that I can think of right now)
These are definetly not in order, because how on earth would I be able to do that without dying?
(that I can think of right now)
These are definetly not in order, because how on earth would I be able to do that without dying?
- The wedding planner's daughter I bought this book probably about 3-4 years ago and I have seriously read it about 7 times! I really don't know what it is about this book, but wow.
- The great gatsby click here for my review on it
- The fault in our stars yes I KNOW that every teenaged girl in america has read this book and all they did was gush over the love story (which don't get me wrong, was incredible) but it's more than that! It is the way hazel and augustus accept death, but they understand life and have a beautiful love for living. They don't take oppurtunities for granted.
- When calls the heart a sweet love story series about the midwest! It is a clean, christian book with an amazing story line
- Bridge to terabithia I read this in the 4th grade and have loved it ever since! It is a fabulous story for anyone, no matter what age
- Anne of green gables ok I think everyone knows about this classic but can I just say that it is flipping amazing! I read this novel in the 4th grade as well and I was absolutely enchanted
- Little women I LOVE THIS BOOK!! I have read like a gazillion different versions of it and it never gets old! I've seen the movie countless times and I adore it! Enough said.
Xoxo,

Lily- Bedroom decor + tips and tricks
so (obviously) this is my bed. this is where i spend half of my life. it has a mint spread, quilt, and pillow cases as well as 2 large white pillows and a monogrammed throw pillow from p.b. teen. The monogrammed decal on the wall above (that i am quite fond of) is from etsy. it is a bit hard to see, but the monogram and pillow are different colors and they slightly clash, but who's judging? mint is my hands down favorite color and pink is simply a lifestyle, so those are my two main colors in my bedroom!
right here is my lovely desk. i have my (fake!) telephone, teacup which i adore, flowers (faux), a striped bucket with several pens and pencils, and my darling little lamp. i purchased the phone for a mere $3 at a place that sells model home furniture! i am somewhat fond of vintage, and it is a nice touch. i bought the teacup at vintage village, a small road full of antique shops where i live that i absolutely LOVE. the lamp, flowers, and bucket are all from target (my most favorite store on this earth). also, my monogrammed water bottle is atop my desk (it is not relevant to the topic, it just happened to be sitting there during the picture) i use it constantly and i received it this summer on my birthday. i believe it was purchased on etsy. above my desk is my bulletin board, which i am obsessed with adding to it. it includes several photo booth pictures, invitations, a stefon quote (courtesy of abigail), tickets to the dpac, and plenty of other random beings from gosh knows where.
And yes, there is plenty of other things in my room, but these are the two most important (also, there is no way in heck i would show you a picture of my closet, too painful to the human eyes....more or less)
Tips and tricks for decorating and organizing your room:
- figure out a theme. for example, my room is straight up preppy. or maybe you would like to have a color theme. but if you go with say, blue as your color, that does NOT mean a mix of navy, mint, aqua, teal, royal blue, and azure! pick the main shade, such as navy, then add a totally different color or a pattern as an accent. like my main color on my bed is mint, then i added some coral-y pink.
- give every single object you own a place. for your desk put writing utencils in one drawer, and put notebooks and paper in another! for your closet have shoes paired up and placed in one area, and the clothes somewhat organized into categories! keep your books on the shelf or in a stack, not on the floor and in a drawer!
- keep your room clean to some extent. this doesn't mean you need to vacuum and dust everyday, but the least you could do is put your dirty clothes in the wash, throw away any random trash, and try to pull up the covers a bit. keeping your bedroom at the most a little organized can really create a better work space that is more stress-free!
31 days till Christmas and 6 minutes till dancing with the stars!

Abigail-Thanksgiving
Okay, here's my week. It changes every year, but this year it's going to go something like this:
Monday - Celebrating my sister's birthday
Tuesday & Wednesday - Relaxing. (and a little Christmas decorating too!!)
Thursday - Every other year we go to New York City for Thanksgiving, and get to see the Macy's Day Parade and eat dinner at a fancy restaurant (plus get mild cases of hypothermia) But we went last year, so it's grandmother's house we go. I can't say I really enjoy seeing my dear, redneck relatives, but I do enjoy the food. Plus, it's nonstop entertainment. We have everything from teen moms to convicted criminals to homeless men!!
Friday & Saturday - BEACH. I won't lie, I am not the biggest fan of the actual beach. But it's nice to have a change of scenery and visit a different place for a couple of days.
Sunday - Church. And then, my wonderful break is over and it's back to school. But I'm trying to look on the bright side. Once I go back to school, it'll only be three more weeks till Christmas break!!
By the way… 33 days till Christmas!!

lily- Thanksgiving
It's the most wonderful time of the year! It also seems to be the busiest. with Christmas coming up in less than 34 days (www.xmasclock.com ) and thanksgiving in less than a week, it seems like november is flying by in the blink of an eye! Every Thanksgiving my week looks something like this:
monday-wednesday- clean!!! (and shop, and clean some more)
thursday- one side of the family or another comes over to our house (this can get quite entertaining)
friday- my family and I visit relatives a few hours away (and are overwhelmed with more than enough purple and ECU merchandise)
saturday- thanksgiving with my nearby family(and have so much food I practically die each year)
rest of the weekend- decorate for Christmas!! (my absolute favorite part of the whole year)
usually on friday is when we decide on a tree, then saturday/sunday we spend most of the day decorating!!!
my thanksgiving outfit attire you ask? nothing stunning, but perhaps jeans, riding boots, vest, etc.
Happy Thanksgiving!

lily- A prepster how-to
if you think about it, your style defines you, showing the world who you are. but sometimes your style may be deceiving this world. your heart, soul, and mind might be bursting with color and style and beauty, but your outside may be saying quite the contrary. having a preppy style gives you a taste of everything. and there is so many different types of preppy! you could be straight up southern preppy (a.k.a. monogram everything). you could be the type of prep where oxford shirts and riding boots are your kind of statement. or maybe you’re the kind of prep with an edge, where your monogrammed baseball cap goes great with your ripped jeans and white converse. every prepster has their kind. you might possibly be like me, where pearl earrings and sperrys are a must, but then you sometimes take it out on a limb with some skinny jeans, big t-shirts, and crazy patterned infinity scarves. in reality though, i only dress to impress when i’m out somewhere (do i really go anywhere? i’m such an unsocial child) such as the mall, or target :) but when i’m at home, sweatpants are definitely acceptable. however, i often feel the need to dress up an outfit. if i’m wearing jeans and an oversized t-shirt, i might dress it up with some ballet flats. or if i’m wearing some nike shorts and a plain shirt, it never hurts to add a bow in your hair or place a watch on your wrist. accessories work wonders. here are some simple accents that would look fabulous in any prep’s wardrobe.

Abigail- Buying Christmas Gifts
Repeat that until you have every person accounted for. A lot of times, you can buy the same present for a lot of people, and if you're running low on money, a card is still better than nothing and shows that you care.
Here's an example:
I LOVE buying Christmas gifts. I love planning, and making my little budget, and seeing people's faces when they receive their gift. But I know that some people have trouble, so I made a little format for you to help out with all the gift buying.
(name of person) (gift) (price)

Here's an example:
Lily Ransone a pet alligator $2Remember to put down the name of store if needed. It's also convenient to shop online, and I love using Etsy for inexpensive, personalized gifts. Lastly, make sure to not get too caught up in the giving and receiving and remember the real meaning of Christmas - Jesus. Plus, eat lots of amazing food!!

Being a young person means projects, book reports, and plenty of reading to do. for my semester project in english, I must read a fictional book with over 150 pages (simple). lots of my classmates have chosen volumes such as divergent, the hunger games, and many other popular love stories/science fiction books (which are all fabulous, don't get me wrong), But I on the other hand, being the person i am, refused to complete this task by taking the easy road. Instead I chose to read The Great Gatsby. While I am actually supposed to read the book around junior year of high school, I figured i might as well get a head start. i am absolutely in love with the 1920’s and this book is truly one of literature’s finest. F. Scott Fitzgerald is an author unlike the rest. The story has such a beauty to it, it’s quite mysterious, some might say strange. Others just say it is too much to comprehend and don’t have an interest in it. Yes, it is one of the harder novels i have read, but i must say it is absolutely fabulous! it is so very intriguing, i have had a tough time putting it down. there is a sense of mystery, beauty, passion, and excitement included in it. I am absolutely obsessed with Gatsby, and even though i feel like i totally understand it, i’m pretty sure i have no idea what i’m reading some of the time, but it draws me in! You (usually) should not judge a book by its cover, especially not this one (its cover photo is quite strange) because inside is a fantastic tale. it takes place in the roaring 20’s, full of excitement and scandal. Picture this: it’s around 1925, america is at one of its craziest turning points. the city never sleeps, no one is satisfied with their spouse. Half the country is broke...or a millionare. Wearing white is a must, and you are nothing without fringe. jazz is a lifestyle, the gossip is what keeps lips moving, and there is never enough dancing. I suggest The Great Gatsby 110%

My favorite Music
I am in love with the sixties. for lily, it’s the roaring twenties, but for me, it’s the sixties. I love camelot (as the reign of the kennedys was often called), the hippies, the protests, and the major turning points in racial equality. But most of all, i love the music. the beatles, of course, are very high up on my list of favorite musicians. there’s no doubt about it - they were amazing. but my other all-time favorites include Crosby, stills, nash, and young (csn&Y), the kinks, david bowie, buddy holly + the crickets, and the rolling stones - my absolute favorite being Neil young, an absolutely amazing folk singer from the late sixties and early seventies, and a former member of csn&y and buffalo springfield. this is kind of a crazy mash-up, but i just can’t help loving everything. today’s music is so… well, it’s not all horrible, but to me it all sounds the same. and i don’t listen to much of today’s music, except one person you would never expect… eminem! Seriously! i listen to the clean versions, of course. I don’t know why I love eminem, he’s just so talented. a lot of people write off rap because it’s so vulgar, and a lot of it is. some rappers sing absolutely awful songs and somehow get paid for it. you have to try and block out all that crap (the cussing and the grossness, you know??) and listen to the song behind it. sometimes it’s a lot deeper than you think.

Abigail-You know the feeling. You get home from school, and all you want to do is dump your stuff on the floor and curl up in front of the tv, stuffing your face with nutella and cupcakes. That homework in your backpack? Forget about it. You don’t even want to think about it. And before you know it, it’s the next day, and you don’t have your homework, nor are you prepared for the test, or pop quiz. I am just like that, and I definitely need help. So we've compiled a list of tips that have seriously helped us get things done:
- Get as much homework as you can done at school. The less homework, the less daunting it is.
- Have everything ready and organized. If your science homework is crammed at the bottom of your backpack under a half-eaten granola bar, you’re not going to want to get it out, much less actually do it. However, if it’s in an adorable monogrammed homework folder, you’ll be more motivated!
- Give yourself incentives. For example, for every three math problems, you get to watch one Saturday Night Live skit.
- Have a homework area. This is really important! Never do it in front of the tv - you might think you can handle the distraction, but you’ll inevitably end up half-butting it. Have a nice, clean, organized, peaceful place to get your homework/studying done.
- Don’t let yourself get on your phone, watch tv, or surf the internet until everything’s done. If you are afraid you’ll cheat, entrust your phone, for example, with your mom, and tell her to only give it to you when you’ve finished that history homework and studied that vocab.
- Check your work! This is so important if you want a good grade.
Best of luck! (you’ll need it!)

Lily R.
so this is me. i’m a teenaged girl, minus the hashtags and pumpkin spice. i have a taste for things i can’t afford, and a passion for all things preppy. i’m a little obsessed with 19 kids and counting, as well as several other reality t.v. shows. jimmy fallon is my hero, & the tonight show is my life. my love of saturday night live is shared with abigail, her being the person who gave me the obsession. i have a love for Jesus, and i attend a small Christian school helping my walk with him each day. i am madly in love with augustus waters, as well as a list of 7 (and counting) husbands (majority fictional). i have an addiction to 80’s sitcoms, as zack morris just so happens to be on my husbands list. my life kind of revolves around volleyball, while abigail is NOT a fan of it. i’m a young girl who’s almost 5’8” and quite frankly i am sick and tired of being told “i’m so tall”, i get it, ok. my life is kind of a hodge podge of lilly pulitzer, anything southern, never-ending reading, dealing with “drama”, more than enough netflix, and a lifetime supply of fabulous friends and family. this is life according to me.
